Initial Dissertation Plans

Conventional arithmetic qualified development experiences like workshops, institutes, courses and seminars have the potential of providing significant learning experiences for teachers but have imperfect ability to maintain the experience. One opportunity of provided that a consequential and sustained mathematics professional learning experience is the use of technology, more particularly the expansion of an online learning community. My research topic involves the development of an online learning community that continues a traditional mathematics professional development experience in an online context. Initial dissertation plans are to utilize the Integrative Learning Design Framework (Bannan-Ritland, 2003) to guide me in a pilot study as I develop an online learning community in conjunction with a current Algebra 1 and Pre-Algebra professional development summer workshop in Baltimore County.
